Results Round Up

Highlight of the past week was undoubtedly this year's Cúl Camp. On field competitive action was confined to U-17 and U-19 with Kevin, Seán & Aron also joining the Imokilly Seniors on Sunday evening to claim the inaugural Denis O’Riordan cup.

Our U-17's hosted Kiltha Óg on Friday evening last in their final group game of their 2022 Championship campaign. It wasn't the boys night and a very strong Kiltha Óg side ran out comprehensive winners. Stand-out performers for us on the night were Cian Cronin-O'Neill (0-9), Liam foley (0-4) and Mick O'Driscoll. The lads will now face Blackrock in the shield final, date to be confirmed.

Our U-19's travelled to Dungourney on Sunday evening to face St. Catherine’s in the semi-final of the East Cork Championship. We got off to a blistering start registering 1-1 within a minute of the start but St. Catherine's settled and by the 15 minute mark were ahead 0-7 to 1-2. Our lads rallied again and were ahead by a point on the 25 minute mark, but the sides were level at the break 0-9 to 1-6. It was again nip and tuck in the second half, with the sides trading scores and we led 0-12 to 1-10 at the mid-way mark but St. Catherine’s finished stronger and ran out 0-17 to 1-10 winners.

In other underage action, our U-9 boys travelled to Ballygibblin last Saturday and played two great games. The boys really benefitted from their Cúl Camp week and still had enough energy to put in a performance on Saturday - well done boys.

Our U-10 boys hosted Aghada on Saturday morning last. With 14 players, the boys played two games of 7 v 7 and finished with a 14 v 14 game. Super morning's work from the boys and another group showing the benefit of their week of Cúl Camp.

And finally, our U-11 boys travelled to Togher on Saturday morning to play St. Finbarr's. A great energetic performance from the boy with great skills and work rate on display. This group are now looking forward to their U-11 tournament in Watergrasshill & Glenville this weekend - best of luck boys and enjoy the weekend's games.

U-11 Tournament

This weekend sees a festival of hurling coming to Watergrasshill & Glenville. An U-11 tournament has been organised with teams from Sliabh Rua, Blackrock, Youghal, Bride Rovers, Carrigtwohill, Valley Rovers & Bishopstown participating. The tournament will kick-off at 9:30 in Watergrasshill with the final in Glenville at 2pm. Credit due to Willie O'Leary and John Fenton for organising. Keep an eye out on our social channels for more details during the week.

Cúl Camp 2022

Well, what a week it turned out to be for Cúl Camp 2022. With months of planning, registrations, vetting and training ready to go - the organising team were as excited to kick-off as the kids were. Unfortunately, Met Eireann had other plans and due to a Yellow thunder & lightening warning issued on Sunday evening - the difficult call had to be made to postpone the camp start until Tuesday. A difficult but correct call with the safety of all as number one priority, compress 5 days of fun into 4 - it was game on!

This year's camp saw 220 kids participate and the noise, energy & excitement at the pitch all week was a joy to behold.

Thanks to all the great kids who were a pleasure to be around. They were all so well behaved and mad for fun and games. Thanks to the parents for their patience and support at drop off and pick up times.

During the week we had Cork camogie stars Amy O’Connor, Laura Hayes & Emma Murphy visit and Cork hurlers Ger Millerick, our own Dáire O Leary and Micheal O’Driscoll come and spend time with the kids. Thank you to you all for the time taken to chat to the kids and sign hurleys, helmets, jerseys and even boots!

On Friday, we had a visit from two special members of our club. Club President Lizzie O’Leary and John O’Neill. It was lovely to have both drop by and see all the activity in the pitch.

A lot of planning went into this camp, so the 220 kids would have the best experience possible. Centre to that was our coaches and camp assistants who were amazing. We had helpers every day who did everything from traffic management, registration’s, shop runs and lots more. Thank you all, you played an absolute blinder all week.

Credit too must go to Barry Joyce, Tommy Bowe, Eddie Enright and the Cúl Camp organising committee whose work in planning and organising the camp was key to its success.

We hope all the boys and girls keep playing our Gaelic Games. It’s great to stay active and healthy and you’ll make friends for life. Hopefully we’ll see you all at club trainings next few weeks and of course Cúl Camp ‘23.

Imokilly Claim Silverware

Kevin O'Neill, Seán Desmond and Aaron Ricken were part of the Imokilly side who had a comfortable win over Avondhu in the Cork Senior Hurling Championship, divisions/colleges final. With Seán registering 1-4 in the final and Kevin starting at mid-field, it was great to see the lads performing at senior level and just rewards for the hard work they continue to put in.

Imokilly now progress to the quarter finals of the championship and we wish them well.
