Junior A’s Championship run ends

Following on from a great opening win in the East Cork Junior A Championship against near neighbors, Carraig na bhFear, followed up by a quarter final win against Sars, our lads played the semifinal of the East Cork Junior A Championship last Saturday evening, once again coming up against Carraig na bhFear . This time round it wasn’t to be a repeat of the opening round result and the lads were beaten on a score line of 11pts to Carraig na bhFear 4-11. It was a disappointing end to their championship campaign, but our opponents were worthy winners on this occasion putting in a fine performance and getting those all too valuable goals. Congratulations to Carraig na bhFear and the very best of luck in the final, where their opponents will come from the winner of the second semifinal between St Ita’s & Russell Rovers.

Best of Luck to Shane O Regan

This week is a big one for our clubmate Shane O Regan and his family, as Shane prepares for the U20 Hurling All Ireland final versus Tipperary. Its been a great year so far for Shane and he has been making headlines and gaining many new admirers in his exploits for Cork. Shane missed out on a Munster medal after an agonising defeat to Tipperary a few weeks ago, when senior player Jake Morris snatched the win for Tipperary with a last gasp goal which was literally the last puck of the game. Cork regrouped however and after a great semi-final defeat of Kilkenny they now have the opportunity to exact revenge and take the ultimate honours at this grade. Win lose or draw, the club is very proud of Shane’s achievement’s and we wish him and his family and of course the Cork team the best of luck and enjoy the build-up this week. It would be great to see a big Watergrasshill & Glenville contingent traveling to support Shane and Cork, throw in is 6pm next Saturday, August 24th at the LIT Gaelic Grounds in Limerick.

Juvenile Activity

Our U7’s were in Rathcormac last Saturday morning for a hurling/football blitz. Together with our hosts Bride Rovers, Fermoy, Castlelyons & St. Catherine’s also took part. Donning the black & amber of Glenville , the lads did brilliantly in both codes. It was a great mornings work and they had great fun along the way. Well done as always to the team of coaches who give up their free time every week to coach the boys in both hurling and football. The skill development in the boys is testament to the great work being done. Thanks also to the parents and supporters who came along to watch the boys and to Bride Rovers for the invite. Well done boys.

Our U12’s travelled to Semple Stadium Thurles last week to take part in a Munster squad day with a 3 team, 11 a side, 15 minute game, blitz. The boys acquitted themselves excellently and put in three very impressive and strong performance's against Blackrock, Adare (Limerick) and Inagh Kilnamona (Clare). While there they also had a tour of the stadium. Well done to all the lads who travelled and a big thanks to their coaches and also to parents and friends who travelled and helped out. A great day had by all.

A very strong performance by our U14s saw the Hill beat St Catherine's in the championship last week, played in Watergrasshill. Watergrasshill got the dream start with a quick point by Sam Dennehy followed by a goal from Ciarán O'Leary. Catherine's responded with a point but Ciarán O'Riordan increased the Hill's lead with a well taken goal followed by a second Ciarán O'Riordan goal and a Michael O'Driscoll point. Half-time Watergrasshill led by 8 points, 3-02 to 0-03.
Almost immediately from the throw-in at the start of the second half, Liam Foley hit form and clocked up four points in a row without reply, each one better the the previous one with some struck from incredible angles. Catherine's score a point with Michael O'Driscoll getting a point from a free. Catherine's then scored their first goal before the Hill put away a further three points from Ciarán O'Leary, Shane O'Callaghan and Michael O'Driscoll (free). Liam Foley followed this with another goal, before Catherine's responded with a goal and a point. David Moore then scored the Hill's fifth goal with Catherine's securing their third goal. The Hill ran out worthy winners by 12 points on a scoreline of 5-11 to 3-05. While the scoring was exceptionally good, the performance of our full-backs, half-backs and midfield ensured good defending and lots of ball won by the midfielders. Special mention to Darragh Collins who did exceptionally well in goal in the absence of Fionn Fitzgerald.
Scorers: Ciarán O'Leary 2-2; Liam Foley 1-4; Ciarán O'Riordan 2-0; David Moore 1-0; Michael O'Driscoll 0-3; Sam Dennehy 0-1; Shane O'Callaghan 0-1.
Squad: Liam Casey, Ethan Bowman, David Moore, Coran O'Neill, Shane O'Callaghan, Ryan Loftus, Ciarán Linehan, Dean Field, Ciarán O'Leary, Sam Dennehy, Liam Foley, Cian Cronin-O'Neill, Michael O'Driscoll, Rory Leahy, Conor Hurley, Donagh Burke, Donnacha Forde, Darragh Collins, Bobby Kelleher, Mikie O'Riordan, Conor O'Mahony, Ciarán O'Riordan, Cathal O'Brien, Billy Ryan, Fionn Fitzgerald. Coaches: Martin O'Riordan, Ger O'Brien and Mike Moore.

Congratulations

Congratulations and well done to Joseph O Riordan who lined out for the Cork U15 footballers recently in a match against Galway. Joseph has a great attitude and works hard at both football and hurlers and this achievement is richly deserved.

Congratulation’s also to those who received their leaving cert results last week. We hope you were happy and can take the next step on your educational or professional careers.
