Fé12 boys claim victory:
This year in our Fé12 age group, we had 2 team competing. This is a first for the club to have enough boys on the age to enable two teams to be formed. It augurs well for the future of our club and is also illustrative of how quickly the population of Watergrasshill has grown in recent years. We had one team competing in Rebel Óg North and another team competing on Rebel Óg East. Our North team played against Shandrum, Kilworth Araglen Óg, Nemo Rangers, Midleton and Bride Rovers whilst our East team played against Sarsfields, Ballincollig, Bride Rovers and Douglas.
In the Rebel Óg East Shield Final it ended Watergrasshill 2-2 Bride Rovers 3-2. A narrow defeat for this great bunch of kids on Friday evening, a game of missed chances for our lads . After a sluggish first half in which James & Ciarán got scores and some good play from Joe, Ely & Luke in goal but at the break we were down 2-2 to 1-1 . The second half we upped the tempo and pushed for scores from the off in Fionn, Ags, Jack and Diarmuid. With Max & Austen solid in defense but it wasn’t to be our night as we couldn’t find the goal to equalize at the end and we’re left to count our missed chances, but in all great progress for these lads this year in reaching both hurling & football finals, well done to all involved.
In the Rebel Óg North Plate Final, our boys came out on top as it ended Nemo Ranger 0-2 Watergrasshill 3-6. A great dominant display from our boys who, perhaps inspired by the disappointment of their friends in the East final the day before, were determined not to let this one slip. There was work rate and skill on display throughout the field from Donagh in goal, Austen, Max & Ronan solid in defense and Cormac & Alex working tirelessly in the middle of the park with hitting over some fine point as well. In the forward line Seán, Sam & Joe doing some great work alongside Ciarán.
Well done to both teams on their first year in Rebel Óg, whilst the silverware was a nice addition, the key for all of these boys is to keep hurling, keep involved and keep enjoying their sport. Thanks also to both sets of coaches and parents who supported the boys throughout the year. No doubt, the Astro and ball wall will be put to goo use over the winter months as these fantastic group keep progressing.
Captain Sam O’Leary accepted the Rebel Óg North Plate on behalf his team following their win over Nemo Rangers
Fé13’s host Skerries Harps from Dublin
Earlier in October, in "less than ideal weather conditions" our under 13's hosted Skerries Harps from Dublin in a challenge game in Watergrasshill. Great game overall in bad conditions. The Skerries Harps lads were fed and watered afterwards and heading to Fota before taking Agahda on Sunday. Thanks to Skerries for coming down and giving us a great game and to all the parents for the refreshments afterwards
