Sciath Na Scol Kick-Off:
Watergrasshill NS played Glenville NS on Friday last in the first round of Sciath na Scol football. A lot of these boys play hurling and football together with the Watergrasshill & Glenville clubs. Very enjoyable game. Watergrasshill lead for 2/3rds of the game, playing with the aid of a strong breeze in first half but didn’t get enough of a lead at halftime. Evenly matched, throughout, but a late flurry from Glenville saw them win by 5pts. We’ll done to all the boys.
Very Busy Underage Weekend
It was a very busy weekend for our underage teams who travelled as far as Murroe in County Limerick despite the inclement weather.
Our U6's travelled to Fermoy on Saturday morning playing in 2 football and 2 hurling games. Well done to all the players who had a great morning, having fun and practicing their skills in both codes
U8 played in a monster blitz in Killeagh this morning. A brilliant effort from them all and they were extremely competitive all through. We'll organized by Killeagh & GDA at a great facility
Following their run-out on Saturday morning, when they hosted Brian Dillon’s at home, our under 9s were on the road early on Sunday morning, travelling to Murroe in Limerick. The boys played 4 very competitive games ending in a shield final with Cappawhite who narrowly defeated us. Can't fault the effort of these lads who gave it their all even when the weather turned against them with howling wind and rain for the last couple of games, this group is improving massively every week and their attitude towards learning has been exceptional. Well done to the boys & massive Thank You to their parents and coaches who also braved the elements on Sunday bringing the boys to Limerick.
Well done to our U-10s who played 2 great games with our Rathcormac neighbours on Saturday. So many great skills and teamwork on show & super to see the lads improving week after week and enjoying their hurling
U11's in action away to St Colmans this morning. Match was 15 v 15, tough and competitive with some good hurling and score taking on display.
Under 12’s in Action
U12 hurling league 2 vs Douglas Sunday 25th in Watergrasshill
Hill 4-4 Douglas 2-0
A great win in what were miserable conditions for hurling. A good start was vital and we got a couple early points from James O'Mahony and solid play and hard work from Fionn & Andrew in midfield and with Sean Dunlea very impressive at center back baked by Ben Lewis & Michael Roche who were defending tirelessly.
Then 2 goals by Ely O'Callaghan & James O'Mahony before halftime were important to put us 2-2 to 0-0 up at the break.
Douglas came out fighting at the start of the second half and got 2 goals to put pressure on us but a great long range point by Andrew Welch settled the nerves and followed by 2 more goals from James put us in the driving seat and to finish out the game as winners . So in the end a great team performance all round from every player and credit to all the players to play some good hurling in bad conditions. Well done to all involved.
