Busy weekend for our Juveniles
This past weekend was a very busy one for our underage teams who hosted two games and travelled for two games.
First up were our U-11's who travelled to Mitchelstown last Friday evening. With 20 players playing 2 games of 10 aside, they got stuck in from the start and as always, worked hard on the basics of support, movement and passing. Well done on a great effort across both games and thanks to Mitchelstown for hosting.
Next up were our U-10 hurlers who hosted Lisgoold last Saturday morning in Glenville. We had 16 players in 2 teams of 8. A very competitive outing with a big improvement in performance from all our lads. Some great score taking, defending & teamwork on display. Many of the boys play with some of the Lisgoold boys for Watergrasshill United so there were some great challenges and banter before, during and after the game. Well done to the boys and thank you to Lisgoold for travelling.
Our U-9 boys hosted Na Piarsaigh on Saturday morning in Watergrasshill. 2 great games played with great teamwork, skills and hard work on display. Our U-9 boys are a fantastic, hardworking group and its super to see the improving week on week. Well done boys and thanks to Na Piarsaigh for travelling.
Last up were our U-7’s who travelled to Ballynoe on Saturday morning to play St. Catherine’s. We had 26 kids altogether meaning the opposition had to bring in a lot of u8's. Tough going for our lads but they really tried their best and kept going to the end. Well done boys and thanks to St. Catherine’s for hosting.
Juniors Relegated
It wasn’t to be for our Junior hurlers on Sunday morning as they lost out in their Junior A relegation paly-off against Carrigtwohill. The final score of 2-22 to 3-11 doesn’t do our lads justice as they battled to the end, going down with their boot on as the saying goes. It’s been a tough year for the lads, but credit to them – they stuck together and battled for each other. We’ve no doubt that the lads will bounce back and with some great talent coming through from underage, we’ll have a great mix of youth and experience for the years ahead.
Two finals down for decision
Two big games upcoming this weekend as our U-12 and U-17 teams play in their respective finals. Our U-12’s will play Youghal on Saturday morning at 11:00 in Youghal in the final of the Rebel Óg East Fé12 Group 3 Shield.
Our U-17’s will face Nemo in Mayfield at 11:00 on Sunday morning in the Rebel Óg East Fé17 D1 Championship Shield final.
We wish both teams the very best of luck and encourage everyone to get along and support the lads.
Lotto
There was no winner of the Lotto Jackpot this week. Numbers drawn were 3, 4, 9 & 17. Lucky dip winners are Margaret O’Callaghan, Dan O’Donoghue, Conor Buckley & Pat Moyhihan. Congrats to you all. Next week's jackpot is €3,600 and draw will take place 3rd October in The Hut Bar. Tickets are on sale in some of the village businesses like The Hut Bar, The Fir Tree, Johnny's Shop and our new Lotto stand in Ross's Centra. Tickets can also be purchased on-line via our club website (www.watergrasshillgaa.ie). The Club would like to take this opportunity to thank all our members and supporters of the Watergrasshill GAA Club Lotto. The Club Lotto is a vital source of income for the running of all our teams within the Club and for future development of our facilities, so we ask you to please support it if you are in a position to do so. Remember, if you’re not in you can’t win.
