Weekly Notes 28.03.2022   30/03/2022

All systems GO

It was a relatively quiet week on the playing front, with the Rebel Óg and Go-Games programs focusing on football. This week however, there are no fewer than 5 Rebel Óg hurling games fixed and the resumption of the Go-Games program for hurling. This weekend our Fé-9, Fé-10 and Fé11 teams will play their first series of games, followed next week by the Fé-8 team and the week after by the Fé-7 team, by the weekend of April 9th, all 5 age groups will have already played at least one series of hurling and football go-games.

There is great credit due to Colm Crowley, his fellow GDA’s and the Go-Games organizer's for formulating a plan to accommodate over 10,100 kids across 129 clubs in both codes ranging from Fé-7 to Fé-11. The game format is tailored to the age group with a focus on increasing ball contacts, space, activity and enjoyment with fewer players on the pitch. Fé-7 will be playing 5-a-side on a 35m x 25m pitch for 3 x 20-minute games with Fé-11 playing 9-a-side on a 75m x 45m pitch in 3 x 20-minute games.

Equipment Re-cycling drive

Starting on Saturday March 26th we are launching our equipment recycling drive, with particular emphasis on our underage club.

With so many new families in the parish and in an effort to minimize the cost of getting started and maximize accessibility to hurling, we are asking that if anyone has hurley's or helmets which they no longer use, that they be dropped to the clubrooms where our drop boxes will be located.

The clubrooms will be open every Saturday morning between 10am and 1pm where we will have a “home for hurleys” and a “helmet hub” where items may be dropped for re-use.

We will ensure that all equipment is fully sanitized before re-distribution and make sure that no child goes without.

This initiative will primarily benefit our juvenile club by providing affordable access to equipment and who knows, maybe unearthing the next Daire O’Leary from our underage academy.

Text Service Re-launch

This year we are re-launching our supporters text messaging service as another way to keep members up-to-date with upcoming fixtures.

If you would like a weekly supporter’s message with fixtures for Watergrasshill & Glenville hurling, football, camogie and ladies football matches please contact Paud O'Neill 0879890964 or Barry Joyce 0871847017.

There is a nominal fee of €5 per year for this service.

We would also appreciate if members could share this service with those who are not on social media as we have found in previous years that this service is very beneficial for them.

Lotto

There was no winner of the Lotto Jackpot this week. Numbers drawn were 1, 7, 17 & 29. Lucky dip winners are Nora & Shane O’Riordan, Padraig McHugh, Eugene F. O’Neill, and Mark Sheehan. Congrats to you all. Next week's jackpot is a fantastic €12,600 and draw will take place Monday 28th March. Tickets are on sale in some of the village businesses like The Hut Bar, The Fir Tree, Johnny's Shop and our new Lotto stand in Ross's Centra. Tickets can also be purchased on-line via our club website (www.watergrasshillgaa.ie). The Club would like to take this opportunity to thank all our members and supporters of the Watergrasshill GAA Club Lotto. The Club Lotto is a vital source of income for the running of all our teams within the Club and for future development of our facilities, so we ask you to please support it if you are in a position to do so. Remember, if you’re not in you can’t win.

Pitch Signage & Advertising Opportunity

As we enter a new decade, we do so with great optimism and excitement here at Watergrasshill GAA Club. Later this decade we will celebrate our centenary year, which will be a special milestone. While it's important to celebrate the past and the history of the club, it’s also important we look forward to the future. With this in mind, the club will shortly be undertaking a development project, to prepare the club for the future and further position ourselves at the center of our community. Part of this project will be the development of our existing club grounds. To that end we will endevour to raise a revenue stream from advertising, while giving businesses the opportunity to advertise their services and reach a wider audience within our community. With the playing numbers on the increase our facility will be a busy spot over the coming years, and we would love to have your name and business positioned in the hearts and minds of all those who visit on a weekly basis. We are offering advertising space via pitch signage, 3000mm wide x 750mm high. These are a 5-year gloss laminate, flash mounted to 0.2mm skin diabond sign. If you would be interested in this opportunity to advertise and support our club, please contact Claire O Leary on 087-6239297 or any member of the club who can provide assistance.

Registration Reminder

A final reminder to all club players, parents, supporters & friends from far and wide - club membership for 2022 is now due. Club membership is not only mandatory for all players to register with the GAA, but also important in support of our club's ongoing capital program by ensuring our membership numbers are accurate. Registration is as easy as 1-2-3:

2. - Click the registration link on www.watergrasshillgaa.ie or https://clubforce.com/clubs/gaa-watergrasshill-hurling-club-cork/
