Watergrasshill National School Visit

In the words of Van Morrison "my mama told me, there'd be days like this".

As a small rural club we are of the community & for the community.

As GAA people we represent our families, our parish and our clubs.

We dream of climbing the steps of Croke Park or Semple Stadium and "bringing it home".

Well on Thursday March 3rd - all that came to pass as Daire O'Leary, Seán Desmond, Brendan Lehane and Mick O'Driscoll visited Watergrasshill National School with Munster & All-Ireland, U-17 and U-20 trophies which they won with Cork last year. Seán and Brendan are past pupils in Watergrasshill with Mick and Daire having attended Glenville National school.

As with every parish across the land, our National Schools are intertwined with our GAA clubs and for everyone who has every held a hurley or kicked a football, bringing any silverware back to our school is a dream, from Sciath Na Scoil up to Sam, Liam, O’ Duffy & Martin and all grades in between.

Daire and Seán were part of the Cork U-20 team that won Munster and All-Ireland titles in 2021 with Mick and Brendan being part of the Minor set-up who also won Munster and All-Ireland crowns in 2021.

Indeed Daire was also part of the 2020 winning U-20 team with clubmate Shane Ó Regan and has now progressed to make a number of appearances for the Cork seniors in their opening Allianz league games, so exciting times ahead for Daire.

Furthering the connections on the day were WGH NS Staff members Áine O’Leary and Mary Lehane who were proud as punch to welcome their sons Daire and Brendan to the school having represented Cork.

Indeed, newly installed principle of Watergrasshill National Michael Prout was a member of the last Cork team to claim All-Ireland minor honors when Cork beat Galway in 2001.

The lads visit was aligned with the school wear red day, so needless to say the school was awash with red and white jerseys. There was great excitement on the day, topped off by the granting of no homework, which went down a storm with the pupils.

To say we're proud of these young men is an understatement & today they got to share a great occasion with the next generation of boys & girls who hope to follow in their footsteps.

Text Service Re-launch

This year we are re-launching our supporters text messaging service as another way to keep members up-to-date with upcoming fixtures.

If you would like a weekly supporter’s message with fixtures for Watergrasshill & Glenville hurling, football, camogie and ladies football matches please contact Paud O'Neill 0879890964 or Barry Joyce 0871847017.

There is a nominal fee of €5 per year for this service.

We would also appreciate if members could share this service with those who are not on social media as we have found in previous years that this service is very beneficial for them.

Lotto

There was no winner of the Lotto Jackpot this week. Numbers drawn were 2, 15, 22 & 27. Lucky dip winners are Donal McHugh, Ray Goggin, Helen O’Driscoll & Davy + Tom c/o The Hut. Congrats to you all. Next week's jackpot is a fantastic €12,200 and draw will take place Monday 7th March. Tickets are on sale in some of the village businesses like The Hut Bar, The Fir Tree, Johnny's Shop and our new Lotto stand in Ross's Centra. Tickets can also be purchased on-line via our club website (www.watergrasshillgaa.ie). The Club would like to take this opportunity to thank all our members and supporters of the Watergrasshill GAA Club Lotto. The Club Lotto is a vital source of income for the running of all our teams within the Club and for future development of our facilities, so we ask you to please support it if you are in a position to do so. Remember, if you’re not in you can’t win.

Pitch Signage & Advertising Opportunity

As we enter a new decade, we do so with great optimism and excitement here at Watergrasshill GAA Club. Later this decade we will celebrate our centenary year, which will be a special milestone. While it's important to celebrate the past and the history of the club, it’s also important we look forward to the future. With this in mind, the club will shortly be undertaking a development project, to prepare the club for the future and further position ourselves at the center of our community. Part of this project will be the development of our existing club grounds. To that end we will endeavor to raise a revenue stream from advertising, while giving businesses the opportunity to advertise their services and reach a wider audience within our community. With the playing numbers on the increase our facility will be a busy spot over the coming years, and we would love to have your name and business positioned in the hearts and minds of all those who visit on a weekly basis. We are offering advertising space via pitch signage, 3000mm wide x 750mm high. These are a 5-year gloss laminate, flash mounted to 0.2mm skin diabond sign. If you would be interested in this opportunity to advertise and support our club, please contact Claire O Leary on 087-6239297 or any member of the club who can provide assistance
