Weekly Notes 01.11.2021
01/11/2021
Our U11 hurlers hosted Bride Rovers at home in Watergrasshill last weekend. The boys put in a brilliant effort and there was excellent hurling skills on display. It was great to see 20 young hurlers giving their all for the Hill. Thanks to all the parents for bringing the lads and giving great support.
U-18’s come out on top
Well done to our U-18 team who came out on top in their Rebel Óg East – Fé18 D1 Hurling Championship game against Erins Own in Pairc Uí Chaoimh last Wednesday. On a night that can only be described as fit for ducks, in torrential rain the game went ahead under flood lights on the 4G pitch. In a game without water breaks, fitting as there was enough water falling from the sky, our lads started brightly and mid-wat through the 1st half there was just appoint in the game with Erins Own leading 0-4 to 0-5. However Erins Own struck a huge blow minutes before half time to add a goal to their tally, however their lead was just 0-6 to 1-5 at half time. With no improvement in conditions, the second half was punctuated by wayward shooting on both sides with wides racking up through no fault of those who were braving the horrendous rain. As the game entered the final period, Erins Own led by 3 points on a score line of 0-13 to 2-10. However there was more left in this Watergrasshill side. They managed to pull the deficit back to just 2 points with time up which meant only only thing would seal victory. Cian Cronin O’Neill duly obliged netting a stoppage time penalty to give Watergrasshill the victory on a score line of 1-14 to 2-10. Massive credit to our boys whose head never dropped throughout, they fought hard to stay in touch and got their just rewards taking the spoils.
U-7 team wrap up their season
Our U7 hurlers finished up their year with a Halloween training camp last weekend on the Glenville astro. Brilliant fun was had by all. The boys have put in great effort all year, training and playing with a smile on their faces throughout. Thanks also to the boy’s parents who have supported the boys and made sure they attended training and go-games throughout the year. A massive Thank You goes to the coaches who were excellent once again all year, not only coaching the fundamental skills of the game but also working hard to keep sessions fun, keeping the boys engaged and involved. Speaking of coaches, well done to the coaches for making an effort at getting dressed up for the Halloween training camp although it must be said, there has huge disparity of effort. A word of thanks also to Luke Conway for providing the lovely medals which all the boys received after the camp. We hope the boys, their families and indeed their coaches enjoy the winter break, keep tipping away with a hurley in the hand every chance you get. See you all next year at U8’s.
Massive game in store for intermediates
There is a massive game in store for our Intermediate hurlers this weekend when they face Aghada in their Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship – Relegation Play-Off. The game is on Saturday 6th November at 2:00pm in Riverstown. Needless to say, with Premier Intermediate status at stake, everyone associated with the club wish the very best of luck to Willie O’Leary and his team and we all hope they get the result they deserve and maintain Premier Intermediate status. This panel of men has overcome huge adversity over the past number of years and has never been found wanting in terms of effort, dedication and spirit. Our entire community across Watergrasshill, Glenville and our diaspora across the globe are all behind them and wish this team the very best of luck.

Pitch Signage & Advertising Opportunity
As we enter a new decade, we do so with great optimism and excitement here at Watergrasshill GAA Club. Later this decade we will celebrate our centenary year, which will be a special milestone. While it's important to celebrate the past and the history of the club, it’s also important we look forward to the future. With this in mind, the club will shortly be undertaking a development project, to prepare the club for the future and further position ourselves at the center of our community. Part of this project will be the development of our existing club grounds. To that end we will endeavor to raise a revenue stream from advertising, while giving businesses the opportunity to advertise their services and reach a wider audience within our community. With the playing numbers on the increase our facility will be a busy spot over the coming years, and we would love to have your name and business positioned in the hearts and minds of all those who visit on a weekly basis. We are offering advertising space via pitch signage, 3000mm wide x 750mm high. These are a 5-year gloss laminate, flash mounted to 0.2mm skin diabond sign. If you would be interested in this opportunity to advertise and support our club, please contact Claire O Leary on 087-6239297 or any member of the club who can provide assistance.
