Under 17’s win a close contest

Rebel Óg East – Fé17 D2 Hurling Championship – Shield Final Watergrasshill 3-9 V 0-17 St. Colman’s

Our Under-17 hurlers came through a titanic battle with St. Colmans to win the Rebel Óg East – Fé17 D2 Hurling Championship – Shield Final in Caherlag last Saturday. In a game which was shackled by the strong wind and very soft underfoot conditions, out lads showed incredible skill and tenacity, matched by grit and determination  to win by the narrowest of margins. Having got off to a flying start with goals from Ciarán O’Leary & Ryan Loftus in the opening period, our 4 point waterbreak lead was reduced to 2 as St. Colman’s accuracy from frees helped them to stay in touch but we led on a score line of 2-6 to 0-10 at half-time. The lads dug-in again and despite a 2nd half red card, our 14 men held a 5 point advantage at the waterbreak, 3-8 to 0-12. St. Colmans accuracy from frees again allowed them to come back into the game, bringing the gap back to just one point, but relentless hard work throughout the team led by Ciarán O’Leary, Sam Dennehy, Brendan Lehane and Mike O’Driscoll to name but a few meant the men from the Hill held on for a memorable win.

This is just rewards for this group of players who continued to display dedication, togetherness and spirit in abundance throughout an up and down season. An extremely talented group, many of whom won U-17 football honours with Glenville 2 weeks ago and also currently undefeated playing with Watergrasshill United in the U-17 Cork Youths league as well as having Mick O’Driscoll and Brendan Lehane as part of this years Cork minor set-up – goes to show the athleticism, talent and diversity amongst this group.

U-8 team wrap up their season

Our U-8 boys finished off their season by taking part in the Cork GDA organized monster blitz on the Páirc Uí Chaoimh 4G last Saturday, playing games against Ballincollig, Passage, Killeagh and Blackrock. Well done to all the boys who really enjoyed their mornings hurling showing great skills and teamwork throughout – the future is indeed bright for these lads. Big Thank you to the parents who supported the boys throughout the year, the coaches who gave their time to help the boys during the year and to Colm Crowley (Cork GDA) for organizing the blitz at the weekend.

Pitch Signage & Advertising Opportunity

As we enter a new decade, we do so with great optimism and excitement here at Watergrasshill GAA Club. Later this decade we will celebrate our centenary year, which will be a special milestone. While it's important to celebrate the past and the history of the club, it’s also important we look forward to the future. With this in mind, the club will shortly be undertaking a development project, to prepare the club for the future and further position ourselves at the center of our community. Part of this project will be the development of our existing club grounds. To that end we will endeavor to raise a revenue stream from advertising, while giving businesses the opportunity to advertise their services and reach a wider audience within our community. With the playing numbers on the increase our facility will be a busy spot over the coming years, and we would love to have your name and business positioned in the hearts and minds of all those who visit on a weekly basis. We are offering advertising space via pitch signage, 3000mm wide x 750mm high. These are a 5-year gloss laminate, flash mounted to 0.2mm skin diabond sign. If you would be interested in this opportunity to advertise and support our club, please contact Claire O Leary on 087-6239297 or any member of the club who can provide assistance.
