Best of luck to our U-15 boys

Everyone at the club are extending our good wishes and best of luck to our U-15 boys who face St. Colmans in a unique double-header this weekend.

Having come through the group stages of their Rebel Óg East, Division 2 Championship defeating Cobh, Fr. O’Neills and Whitechurch, they have progressed to the East Cork Final having overcome Erin’s Own in the semi-final.  This game doubles up as the Féile Semi-Final, where having qualified from their group containing Aghabullogue, Mayfield and Erin’s Own the lads went on to defeat Crosshaven in their quarter-final.

There’s lots on offer for this one and we have no doubt that the lads will give it their all. We wish them the very best and hope as many people as possible could travel to lend their support for this great group of lads, the game is on in Ballinacurra on Saturday 18th September with throw-in at 11:00am.

U-10 team visit Carraig Na Bhfear

Well done to our U-10 team who travelled to Carraig Na Bhfear on Saturday morning last for their Rebel Óg games, playing games against Sars and Carraig na bhfear. We have a great strong panel at this age with 27 boy turning out. Each and every one of them worked hard on the doing the simple parts of game right in getting pickups right, passing at the right times & getting blocks in. They also got some great scores and doing all this while enjoying the game and having fun with their friends. Coach Willie O’Leary, who himself had a busy weekend ahead as he coaches our Intermediates, is impressed every week by the dedication of this group. Willie commented “They turn out hail, rain or shine and every one of the team gives their all. That’s all I can ask of them is to give their all and have fun and they certainly do that, I couldn’t be prouder of them.”

U-11 team games at home

Well done to our U-11 team who braved the elements last Saturday morning, where they played their Rebel Óg games against Ballyhooly & Castlelyons in Watergrasshill. In a morning not suited to ground hurling due to the constant drizzle and occasional downpour – our boys acquitted themselves very well showing their continued improvement with some very well taken points, some great interpassing and awareness. Well done to the boys for their continued hard work and thanks also to the parents who keep the boys interested and involved be it home or away.

Disappointment for our Intermediates & Juniors

There was disappointment for our intermediates in their opening game of the 2021 Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship against Castlelyons in Rathcormac. Lining out without injured Cork U-20 player Dáire O’Leary, our boys had a slow start to the game finding themselves down 2-7 to 0-3 at the first water break, but playing into a strong breeze, there was hope for the second half. Despite a goal from  Shane O’Regan, we trailed by 3-13 to 1-5 at the break and left too much to do in the second half where the final score of 3-21 to 1-11 left no doubt as to the victors. Hard luck to the lads, no doubt they will regroup and go again as they face Inniscarra on Saturday September 18th in Grenagh, throw in at 4:00pm.

There was also a tough start to the 2021 Junior A campaign where the Jamesy Kelleher Cup awaits the eventual winners. In a tough group with Cobh and Sars, our lads came out the wrong side of a heavy defeat to Cobh. The lads now face  long lay-off until October 9th when they face Sars but no doubt they will use the time wisely and be ready for the challenge and hopefully qualify from their group into the knockout stages.

Tickets can also be purchased on-line via our club website (www.watergrasshillgaa.ie). The Club would like to take this opportunity to thank all our members and supporters of the Watergrasshill GAA Club Lotto. The Club Lotto is a vital source of income for the running of all our teams within the Club and for future development of our facilities, so we ask you to please support it if you are in a position to do so. Remember, if you’re not in you can’t win.

Pitch Signage & Advertising Opportunity

As we enter a new decade, we do so with great optimism and excitement here at Watergrasshill GAA Club. Later this decade we will celebrate our centenary year, which will be a special milestone. While it's important to celebrate the past and the history of the club, it’s also important we look forward to the future. With this in mind, the club will shortly be undertaking a development project, to prepare the club for the future and further position ourselves at the center of our community. Part of this project will be the development of our existing club grounds. To that end we will endeavor to raise a revenue stream from advertising, while giving businesses the opportunity to advertise their services and reach a wider audience within our community. With the playing numbers on the increase our facility will be a busy spot over the coming years, and we would love to have your name and business positioned in the hearts and minds of all those who visit on a weekly basis. We are offering advertising space via pitch signage, 3000mm wide x 750mm high. These are a 5-year gloss laminate, flash mounted to 0.2mm skin diabond sign. If you would be interested in this opportunity to advertise and support our club, please contact Claire O Leary on 087-6239297 or any member of the club who can provide assistance.
