U21’s bow out

On Saturday the 2nd of November we travelled to Carraignavar to play Castlelyons in the long awaited East Cork semi-final. Weather conditions were tough for hurling with a strong wind blowing across the pitch. We started the game well with Shane Og Regan hitting a 65 and free in the first few minutes and the industrious Sean Desmond followed up with a point, after Castlelyons had hit us for a goal in this opening quarter. But then a great team goal by the Hill finished to the net by Chris Healy gave us the lead once gain. Chris then added a point before the break to leave the score 1-5 Watergrasshill to 1-4 Castlelyons at halftime. Our opponents had a better start to the second half scoring 2-1 in the opening few minutes but the Hill lads kept going and we’re on top for a lot of the  half but just couldn’t retake the lead. Had we taken our goal chances perhaps the result would have been different, but fair play to Castlelyons and best of luck in the final. In the end, it wasn’t going to be our day and we  lost out by 2pts, on a final scoreline of Castlelynos 3-06 to Watergrasshills 1-10. (Hill scorers: Shane Og Regan 0-6, Chris Healy 1-1 & Sean Desmond 0-3). Team: Cathal Fitzgerald , Garry Doyle , Colin Cronin, Jason Power, Tom Dinan , Darie o Leary , James Gowen , Dan Dennehy, Sean Desmond, Pearce Moloney, Chris Healy, Billy Kennedy, Paudie O Leary , Shane o Regan, Cillian Roche , subs : Gavin Gowen , Owen Desmond, Dylan Power , Dylan McCarty, John o Driscoil, Cathal Moloney, Shane Dorgan, Johnny Noonan.

This game brought the 2019 season to a close for all Watergrasshill teams. On behalf of the club I wish to thank all the players both Juvenile and adults that lined out this year for Watergrasshill GAA. Its an exciting chapter in the clubs history and there are ambitious plans in place to develop the club both on and off the field of play. We are fortunate to belong to a great community, testament to the many men and women who gave up countless hours of their own time to coach and look after players. Without you there wouldn’t be a club. Similarly there is an army of volunteers who look after all other aspects of the club, from the pitch to the lotto, from the Scor to all social aspects, you also are the unsung heroes and the lifeblood of the club. A sincere thank you to you all. Enjoy the winter break and despite the absence of games there is still plenty of activity within the club and 2020 won’t be long coming back around.
