U21’s through to East Cork Semi Final

At the time of writing our U21’s have just come through a tough encounter in the East Cork A Hurling Championship, final round robin games. Our opponents were Youghal and trailing by five points at half time, 0-12pts to 0-5pts we left it late to take the lead and eventually get over the line, coming out on top on a scoreline of Watergrasshill 0-15, Youghal 0-14. The lads showed great battling qualities, never gave up, believed in their ability and trusted one another when it mattered.  Well done lads, great turnaround and great win. Next up is Castlelyons in the semi-final with the date, time and venue to be confirmed.

Juvenile Activity

On a beautiful Autumn morning in the Hill last Saturday our U7’s got together for their last training session of the year. Once again the boys had great fun and put in a great mornings work. Thanks a million to the team of coaches who looked after this group so well and put in a mighty effort all year, in hurling and football. Thank You, Noel, Padraig, Tommy, Jerry, Eanna, Wayne, Paud & Liam (I hope I haven’t forgotten someone). A lovely touch at the end presenting the boys with a sliotar to take home and practice over the winter. Thanks again to all involved, enjoy the winter break, keep practising the hurling and football and best of luck next year at U8’s.

Our U8 hurlers travelled to Ballincollig on Saturday, along with St Finbarrs to take on our hosts. It was a great mornings hurling, with four teams of seven taking to the field with the pride of wearing the Hill colours. The lads & terrific lady (Abigail Fenton) played four games and produced some great skills putting in a great effort in all the games. As this was the last outing of the year I wish to thank the coaches for their great help and support throughout the year. Thank You Willie O Leary, John Fenton, Mary Lehane, Marie McDermott, Pat O Leary, Barry Downey, Joe O Callaghan, Luke Conway, Ray Goggin, Mark Lee & Kevin Cotter. Also to the parents who travelled to every game and training and always give great support to the kids, sincere Thank You. Lastly and most important of all, fair play to this great bunch of kids who are fully committed to every training Wednesday and Saturday and every game they play. We saw big improvements throughout the year which is brilliant, so a big congrats to the kids. Enjoy the break but keep practicing and see you all in 2020 for another great year.

The curtain came down on a great year for our U10’s with a blitz held in the Hill on Saturday. Our visitors were Fermoy and Kilara Óg with Castlelyons unfortunately not able to make it. The blitz was organised by Nicola Young who is a member of An Garda Siochana based in Fermoy. Nicola has been coming to the Hill past few weeks helping out with the coaching of the kids as part of a community engagement initiative. Thank you Nicola for your help and support past few weeks. Today the boys did their coaches proud, putting in a massive effort in the final two games of the year. They were brilliant, working furiously for each other. There was great skill on show and lovely scores taken. Well done boys not just on today and a great finish but for the effort put in all year. The improvement and development made over the past few months is great to see. A special mention to Head Coach & Director of Technical Development (hmm!!) Brendan Duffy who has put in unreal effort and time with these boys all year. Thanks to Shane McCarthy and Paudie Cahill also for their help and to the parents who travelled week in and week out, dropping and supporting the boys. Finally to the U10 boys, don’t ease up, keep practicing, keep that Hurley in hand as much as you can and keep belting the football off a wall, window or door!. Enjoy the winter break lads, see you all in 2020 and a good run at U11’s.

Hard luck to our U12’s who were beaten in the Division 1 League Semi Final on Sunday by St. Colman’s, going down 3-9 to 2-5. Trailing by a single point at half time 2-4 to 2-3, the second half belonged to the visitors who pushed on impressively. Great effort from the boys who never gave up and pushed for that elusive goal that would have got us back in the game, but it wasn’t to be unfortunately. Thanks boys for a great year, keep the heads up high as the future is bright and plenty of better days ahead. A big thank you to the coaches, Kevin Barry, Martin O Riordan and Pa O Neill who once again gave their time selflessly to coaching the group all year. Enjoy the break lads and best of luck next year when you resume for another crack at it.

Congratulations

Congratulations to our club mates Darragh O Callaghan & the two Shanes, Shane O Regan Og & Snr,  and indeed the entire Imokilly squad and management, who claimed the three in row senior hurling titles, defeating Glen Rovers on a scoreline of 2-17 (23) to Glen Rovers 1-16 (19).

Congratulations to the Glenville U13 team of Darragh Collins, Ryan Loftus and Ciarán Linehan who won the East Cork Gaelic Football Kicking Competition 2019 in Killeagh last week. They boys went on to represent East Cork in the County Final at the weekend doing themselves, club and division proud. Well done boys.

St. Colman’s College

It was a week of mixed fortunes for St.Colman’s College Fermoy. Hard luck to St. Colman’s in the Harty Cup on Friday, going down to a very good Thurles CBS team, 1-25 to 2-13. Our clubmates, Daire O Leary and Gary Doyle saw game time. Congrats to the school on their Dean Ryan Semi-Final win over Midleton CBS, winning 2-26 to 0-10. There was a few boys from the Hill involved which is great, St. Colman's now face Ardscoil Rís in the final.

This meeting gives all members of our community the opportunity to learn and voice their opinions with respect to the environmental design plan for the village. This is open to all and its hoped it will be a collaborative process which will listen and take note of what our community needs are. It is the intention of this plan to identify the needs of the village and capture the intentions of the community for the foreseeable future. Please come along and have your say. The GAA club is fully supportive of this initiative and would love to see members of the club and their family attending to learn more and have their say. Hope to see you there.

CPR

Hands for Life: Community CPR Training is an Irish Heart Foundation programme, providing FREE CPR training for communities across Ireland for adults aged 18 years and over. Watergrasshill Community Association will coordinate this program BUT we need the numbers. If you're interested please email info@watergrasshill.com. The training will take place in Midelton GAA club on Saturday November 23rd, time TBC. It's an ideal opportunity to get trained up on CPR & a great way for people previously trained to brush up on the techniques. CPR is a valuable skill to have and could save a life in the future. It’s something you hope you will never need to use but if you found yourself in a position it was needed, wouldn’t you like to know what to do. The GAA club fully supports this and encourages all members, supporters and friends to avail of this terrific opportunity to learn a lifesaving skill.
