U14’s Crowned County Champions

A one-point winning margin over old rivals St Catherine's saw Watergrasshill crowned as U14-D1 County Champions. Watergrasshill 2-7 (13) St. Catherine's 1-9 (12). Cian Cronin-O'Neill opened the Hill's account with an early point from a free. Catherine's responded with two points before Cian Cronin-O'Neill levelled the game with a point from play. Cian added a further point from a free before Ciaran O'Leary scored a goal to give the Hill a four-point advantage. Cian Cronin-O'Neill converted another free to a point to add to the Hill's score of 1-4 to Catherine's 2 points. Catherine's were in no mood to abandon their activities, and scored five-points without reply to level the games at half-time 1-4 to 0-7. The Hill surged into the second half with Michael O'Driscoll scoring a point from a free and Billy Ryan scoring a goal. With the Hill leading by 4-points, they were hit with a straight red card in the 18th minute of the second half. Now down to 14 men, they team regrouped and adopted a strong defence structure. Catherine's added another point with Liam Foley responding with a well-struck point from play. Ciaran O'Leary followed up with another point. With normal time expired and with 7 minutes added, both sides played with ferocity before Catherine score a goal. Catherine's were rewarded with a goal to make it a single point game. However, the HIll had done enough and won the County Champions title by a single point. Juvenile Activity

Great to see the U7 boys and girls coming together on Saturday for a joint training session in the Hill. Great fun had by all. It’s great to see kids active and involved in sport, no matter what the sport. The health benefits don’t need to be mentioned, but it’s also the social side and a place where kids make friends for life. Thank you parents for sending kids out to play and being a taxi service every week to ensure they get the chance to be active and involved. Thanks to Clionadh and Noel for organising yesterday’s joint session.

The U8’s played Carrigtwohill Saturday morning in Hill, in our last home game of the year. We played in lovely sunshine for October. We had 32 kids tog out in the Hill colours and played three very competitive games against our visitors. There was great skill on show in all the games and everyone had great fun. Afterwards goodie bags supplied by Ross’s Centra Watergrasshill went down a treat, so big thanks to Ken & team for their generosity. Thanks to Carrigtwohill for travelling up and being great opposition as always.

Our U9’s made the short trip to near neighbours Sars and played three very entertaining and enjoyable games. The boys put in great performances and had great fun played in lovely conditions. Our U10’s travelled to Ballincollig where our hosts put up a stern test to our lads. The boys responded well, putting in a great shift, working hard as a team and playing well throughout. Thank you to Ballincollig for being great hosts as always. The U11’s made the trip to Castlemartyr to take on Kiltha Og and depite being depleted those that made the trip certinly provided plentry of entertaining hurling. CPR

Hands for Life: Community CPR Training is an Irish Heart Foundation programme, providing FREE CPR training for communities across Ireland for adults aged 18 years and over. Watergrasshill Community Association will coordinate this program BUT we need the numbers. If you're interested please email info@watergrasshill.com. The training will take place in Midelton GAA club on Saturday November 23rd, time TBC. It's an ideal opportunity to get trained up on CPR & a great way for people previously trained to brush up on the techniques. CPR is a valuable skill to have and could save a life in the future. It’s something you hope you will never need to use but if you found yourself in a position it was needed, wouldn’t you like to know what to do. The GAA club fully supports this and encourages all members, supporters and friends to avail of this terrific opportunity to learn a lifesaving skill.
